Addressing
Could an ambulance find you?
During an emergency, the street address is how emergency services find the incident. Many people use the 000 service to request emergency response. The 000 service is a great emergency response tool, but accurate and consistent address information is vital to its success.
The allocation, maintenance and distribution of standardised street addressing have been particular issues since the first days of GIS implementation in Queensland. QSIC is working with key stakeholders that collect mange and distribute addressing information to develop a program of activities that will help resolve the addressing issues in Queensland.
This partnership will examine how information can be collected, maintained, stored and validated in a standardised format. This information is then used to support business requirements of government, industry, utilities and telecommunications companies. Awareness and promotion in the use of addressing data by the public and industry are also vital steps.
