Government Information Licensing Framework (GILF)

 

The QSIC business environment for licensing spatial information product and service transactions has been in place in Queensland since 2000. In 2006, QSIC commissioned the Government Information Licensing Framework Project, to review the business environment in terms of best practice and international trends in the transaction of public sector information.

 

The GILF project is about creating and implementing a new standardised information licensing arrangement for all Queensland government information, not just spatial information. This will provide enhanced, on demand access to accurate, consistent and authoritative information and support a range of the government's initiatives dependent on strategic information.

 

There are several stages to the Government Information Licensing Framework project, with Stage 2 completed and endorsed by QSIC.

 

Stage 1 - Review of Government information licensing practices

 

Stage 2 - A Government information open access and use strategy

 

Stage 3 - Definition of GILF for Queensland

 

Stage 4 - Implementing GILF
 

The project team, based in QSIC, is working in collaboration with the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) Open Access to Knowledge (OAK) Law Project, lead by Professor Brian Fitzgerald, Head School of Law at QUT. The OAK Law Project aims to facilitate open access to publicly funded research by also developing legal protocols and generic licences to share research outcomes online.
