Spatial Technology in Schools'education for future spatial workforce'
The Spatial Technology in Schools (STiS) program has been established as a joint initiative between the Queensland Spatial Information Council (QSIC) and Education Queensland.
The purpopse is to implement strategies and support skills development that increases school children's understanding of spatial information and how it can be used. The aim is to develop transferable spatial information skills in both students and teachers that can be used across different subject areas and learning phases.
Already the program is delivering teaching resources and establishing networks for teachers, making sure they are well equipped to take spatial technology into the classroom. Teachers are also sharing this knowledge on the internet via the Curriculum Exchange, a site developed especially for teachers to share their ideas and resources.
The showcase event for this project has been the Spatial Technologies in Schools Expo held over the past three years. Teachers have come from all over Queensland, and even interstate, to develop skills and applications for spatial technology in the classroom, as well as to network with industry professionals.
The Queensland Education Working Group is progressing this project.
