Metadata
Metadata provides information about the content, quality, condition and other important characteristics of data, improving data discovery and management.
Metadata is collected in accordance with national metadata guidelines. These guidelines provide a standardised and practical format for describing spatial information, recording elements such as name, ownership, description, currency, status, access and quality.
Capturing metadata is a simple and inexpensive exercise compared with the benefits it provides in managing and securing valuable spatial information assets. QSIC provides a metadata collection tool and provides a facility for free display on the Australian Spatial Data Directory.
